Asia’s passion for design is tangible in her renovation of Mt Kanimbla. She rejuvenates bygone sheds and cabins to create inviting and captivating spaces for guests to immerse themselves in. Asia draws off the original structures of the residences as much as possible whilst injecting modern features and nostalgic design touches.

The retreat features four different lodgings, including the Machinery Shed, the Hilltop Cabin, The Lodge and the Woodland Cabin. The Machinery Shed is nestled within the apple orchard and offers views of the escarpment and the Kanimbla valley that lies below. The shed has been beautifully restored without sacrificing its rustic charm. It boasts an exposed beam ceiling adorned with fairy lights, hardwood timber floorboards and a stone fireplace accompanied by midcentury furnishings in an intimate space that thrives in its rawness and simplicity.

The Hilltop Cabin underwent considered renovations to what was originally a cramped, corrugated, iron-walled cabin with small timber windows. Drawing inspiration from American log cabins and her own family’s orchard, Asia retained the building’s shape and roofline whilst replacing the walls and windows, adding midcentury-inspired furniture and several luxury additions such as a stone bath and outdoor plunge pool.

Reimagining a vast space centred on indulgence directed a more contemporary design approach for The Lodge. The space features two living areas with wood fireplaces, four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a decked area with a private plunge pool and a spa room as well as a private therapist. Soft furnishings complement the rural oasis, with tones kept woody and natural.

Asia and Sam’s honest design approach eloquently intertwines rustic charm and luxury to create a distinct stay that lingers with guests long after they depart.

Aspiring to reconnect guests to nature, the secluded Woodland Cabin echoes its surrounding mountainous locale in its design. The exterior retains its original wooden façade, whilst the interior space welcomes a luxe, refined feel. Stone walls and a freestanding stone bathtub speak to the surrounding rock formations whilst earthy and mineral tones dominate throughout.

Each lodging evolves into an experience, leaving guests feeling the enchanting effects of a rural getaway – taken care of, rejuvenated, inspired, disconnected and, ultimately, reconnected.
