Lighting Collective’s latest exclusive range, from Marovo Island Traders, is an ode to the ageless beauty of fossil coral.

With a strong identity in its Byron Bay locale and across the country, Lighting Collective’s carefully curated selection of luxury lighting is sourced from both local and international designers. Their recent collection from artisan carvers Marovo Island Traders is further evidence of the brand’s continuing interest in exploring new textures and materiality. The result is the stunning Marovo Fossil Coral range, a curation of pendants, lamps, wall sconces and wall lights that will inject an organic elegance into any space. It is available exclusively at Lighting Collective.

“With great reverence for the past, we transform these ancient treasures into captivating pieces that tell a story of time, resilience, and beauty.”

The range is made from fossil coral ethically sourced from the Marovo Lagoon in the Solomon Islands. Created over millions of years, fossil coral is the preserved remains of ancient coral reefs or individual coral organisms that have undergone the process of fossilisation. The coral is not mined from below the sea, but rather is found in abundance on the island. Grinding fossilised coral is an integral part of the Solomon Islands’ traditional culture, and it has historically played a vital role in crafting local currency known as shell money. The coral is both an exquisite relic of the past and a glimpse into the earth’s fascinating geology.

Matt Woodfield, founder of Marovo Island Traders, says: “With great reverence for the past and reviving traditional skills, we transform these ancient treasures into captivating pieces that tell a story of time, resilience, and beauty.”

“The lights are hand-made and embrace the natural imperfections and variations in the stone’s colour, pattern, fracture lines and texture.”

Lighting Collective and Marovo’s partnership is a natural and seamless union, with a shared vision of artisanal craftsmanship. The lights in the Marovo Fossil Coral range are hand-made and embrace the natural imperfections and variations in the stone’s colour, pattern, fracture lines and texture. The collection is a celebration of unique character and beauty, and no two pieces are alike.

They are reminiscent of a piece of art – imbuing ambience and character into any space. Moreover, their organic design and nuanced unique form mean each light will beautifully complement a range of interior design styles and spaces.
