Melbourne Place, the city’s latest luxury boutique hotel, is the perfect backdrop for an immaculately curated selection of Australian design, including stand-out pieces from Jardan.
Designed by the incomparable Victorian architecture firm Kennedy Nolan, Melbourne Place is a 14-storey, 191-room exploration of elevated Australian design, fusing considered materiality with an impressive array of local fixtures and finishes. The centrepieces of the striking curation of Australian furniture and lighting come courtesy of Jardan; the team worked closely with Kennedy Nolan to develop pieces that were testament to the beautiful interiors in which they would reside. “Working alongside Kennedy Nolan was a truly collaborative process,” says Jardan director Nick Garnham. “It’s always inspiring to exchange ideas and watch them evolve into something unique.”
Jardan’s trademark use of uniquely Australian colour schemes and fabric selections is exemplified throughout Melbourne Place via key pieces such as the Leeroy, Lemmy and Bon sofas and custom-stained Gus chairs. “The colour palette at Melbourne Place ties in beautifully with Jardan’s fabric range,” says Garnham. “It gave us the opportunity to showcase how versatile and adaptable our materials can be in a project like this.”
Of all the Jardan pieces featured throughout Melbourne Place, the custom Joy chair, crafted in collaboration with Kennedy Nolan exclusively for the hotel, best illustrates both brands’ commitment to custom design solutions. “Designing the custom Joy chair with Kennedy Nolan was a highlight. Together, we landed on something that feels both playful and timeless,” says Garnham. “What stood out most in this project was the shared commitment to Australian design and craftsmanship. From start to finish, the process was a celebration of local talent.”
The chair is featured in each guestroom – including the penthouse – perfectly complementing the destination’s seamless blend of relaxation, beautiful design and elevated comfort. The consummate embodiment of Jardan’s made-to-order capabilities – supported through its state-of-the-art Melbourne manufacturing headquarters – the collaboration between Jardan and Kennedy Nolan brings together two tours de force of local design to create something truly special.
“The team at Kennedy Nolan have such a thoughtful way of designing,” says Garnham. “Their focus on local craftsmanship and Australian-made really resonates with what we’re all about at Jardan. This project felt like a true collaboration. From the furniture in the penthouse to the custom Joy chair, every detail reflects Melbourne’s design DNA.”
