Coco Republic has launched its Modern Desert 2022 Summer Collection, designed by Creative Director and Co-Owner Anthony Spon-Smith. The contemporary collection includes a curated selection of marble pieces that speak to a refreshing palette.

Inspired by the California landscape, Modern Desert reflects a universal tranquillity, drawing strength from raw materiality and neutral, natural colours. “Creating simple furniture design is not easy,” explains Anthony. “To me, [it] is a process of elimination, taking away just enough to end up with an honest piece that resonates with you and just works.” The family owned and operated company is known for pushing design boundaries, producing sculptured pieces that resonate with a minimalistic aesthetic.

Modern Desert works to create a refreshingly light interior space with dynamic depth and character. “The combination of natural elements, colours and raw materials juxtaposed with stronger aesthetics – like marble – work so well, so you will see natural fabrics, timber and rattan and dry tonal minimalistic designs,” Anthony says. “The new marble pieces, such as the Pegasus and the Veneta, are my favourite – there is something so brutal about the shapes and the way the marble moulds onto the surfaces, it’s just epic and makes the whole collection amazing.”

From the dark and light grained marble to travertine and concrete, the 2022 collection is imbued with an earthy tonality working hard to craft elemental depth and insight. The elegant veining throughout the marble pieces means that no two will appear the same. The Montenegro range – available in a desk, console, coffee table and side table – channels a sleek visual design, expressed through a grey marble top situated within an angular polished frame. The Pegasus Calcutta Marble Console is striking in purpose while the Veneta Travertine Console is instilled with a more neutral tonality, ideal for a simple aesthetic.

Made using natural dark marble and offered in desk, side table and coffee table formats, the Vertu Marble range is luxurious in both statement and form. Similarly luxurious, the Veneta Coffee Table and the Alpine Marble Coffee Table and Side Table also allow the marble to reign supreme. The summer season also sees the introduction of new dining tables – the Cubix Dining Table, available in both marble and travertine, and the Como Marble Rectangle Dining Table. The Cubix design is an ode to geometric form with simple, clean lines and leans into its natural stone materiality, while the Como is a sophisticated undertaking available in both round and rectangular shapes.

Additional pieces in the Modern Desert collection include the oak framed timber Byron Occasional Chair, the Parisian-inspired La Croix Chase Chair, the curved and textured Atelier Bed, colour complementing Bestic Vases and Laren Ceramic Vases, as well as the structured Henderson Leather Floor Lamp, the visually intriguing Iyah Sandstone Table Lamp and the Belmont Floor Lamp, anchored in place by an Arabescato marble base.

Over 150 new additions were introduced for Summer 2022, yet each piece emerges with a distinctive discourse that speaks to the overarching theme of sanctuary and minimalistic composition.
