Elevated Modern – Mosman House by Greg Natale
Mosman House sees Greg Natale create a modern landmark through referencing classical architecture across the home’s façade and inner experience. The architect integrates a sense of heightened luxury into the site, layering textures and tactile elements that interact harmoniously within the home.
Anchored to its site, Mosman House captures a contemporary spirit within a classically inspired offering. A detailed and layered approach defines the home – the interior experience holds a complexity and depth representative of the home’s occupants. Spread over four levels, the five-bedroom home floats above the harbour below. Greg Natale draws from an innately Italian influence, emphasised through the extensive use of stone and open space seen in Mediterranean architecture.
Mosman House sits immersed within a series of garden spaces. As a continuation of the narrative of openness and connection, the interior directs views and movement out onto the terrace spaces and internal courtyard. Allowing that sense of effortless continuity was key to how the home would feel from within. Throughout, a combination of styles is brought together with influences from art deco design, adding a sense of movement and playfulness within the home.
Linear elements balance layers of texture throughout the home, encouraging an instinctive flow of movement. Despite the volume of the house, each space is broken down to create varying levels of intimacy. A curated collection of fabrics and contrasting features animate the residence, adding movement through intricate veining in marble and differing patterns of tiling. The use of metalwork and timber aids in creating feelings of enclosure and gives each space a distinct identity.
