Inviting from the outset, New Farm Residence is layered with textures and luxe finishes. Samantha Leigh of Samantha Leigh Interiors reworks the inside of the family home, stripping the existing elements back to craft her own interpretation of calm.

Overlooking the Brisbane River, the apartment feels as large as a stand-alone house. Wanting to open up the interior as much as possible, Samantha deftly navigated the structural necessities to craft the four-bedroom home that is unrecognisable from its predecessor. The dwelling is intended to feel like an escape yet remain connected to the natural elements. Allowing clear visual access between interior spaces and out toward the river was integral to the brief.

The goal was to emphasise both warmth and comfort – each gesture within the home exemplifies this. The curated furniture, artwork and lighting feel naturally composed yet unique to both the area and the owners. Responding to the warm climate of Brisbane, Samantha opted to adopt an earthy palette anchored by muted neutrals. The overall approach was founded on the idea of merging functionality with aesthetics and keeping utility elements concealed as much as possible.

A sanctuary that feels removed from the urban streetscape below, the home is characterful with eccentric insertions. The floor plan has been imagined as a series of linked retreats where connections between each space and the outdoors have been prioritised to enhance access to natural light and ventilation. Located above the river at a substantial height with floor-to-ceiling windows, views are directed to both the water and the sky. The weaving of unique, adventurous and traditional details ensures the apartment avoids feeling too thematic and remains enticing at its core.

Spread over three levels, New Farm Residence makes the most of its elevated position, optimising views and creating a true sense of retreat. Samantha Leigh Interiors welcomes light to bathe the main living areas, which is balanced by heavier textures and darker tones within the more recessive areas.
