A Fresh Perspective – P.O.V Collection by TON

Words by Olivia Hides

The P.O.V Collection by TON is an expression of dynamic simplicity. With nearly 70 different variations available, the collection’s modular design signifies a desire for functional yet commanding pieces, coupled with the capacity to suit a range of interiors.

Designed for TON by kaschkasch, the P.O.V Collection is a demonstration of the power of form, function and aesthetic. The German design studio kaschkasch was launched by Florian Kallus and Sebastian Schneider in 2011; their creative direction is guided by a nuanced perspective, seamlessly linking craft with technological innovation. The name of the collection – point of view – is inspired by the unusual feature of the table, as its appearance varies depending on the angle of the view. Poetically, having a deep understanding of different point of views is also how Florian and Sebastian approach their design process, brought into fruition with their collaboration with TON.

Created by joining three bent identical plywood forms, the collection’s minimalistic style is designed to complement most interior spaces, from a dining room to a café, restaurant or office. The design brings with it a fresh interpretation of versatility – the goal of kaschkasch was to provide TON with a timeless collection that enhanced its current portfolio. “The P.O.V Collection is unique and incredibly versatile,” says Georgia Danos, Creative and Brand Director at James Richardson Furniture. “The pieces are playful in a refined way, offering a lightness and flexibility seldom seen in traditional furniture.”

The collection is available in beech, oak and American walnut, as well as a range of finishes. The tables are available in two heights, with six different tabletop shapes and three base options. The collection also includes a stackable dining stool, customisable by either a smooth or upholstered finish – the upholstery may be chosen from a material in an existing selection or be provided by the client. Another piece in the collection is the P.O.V Table 468, which has an elongated central base that allows for a sturdiness to supports a larger tabletop and is offered in three different tabletop shapes. “With their modular system and customisable form, there is something for everyone in the collection,” says Georgia. “Each product crafted by TON is the work of at least 20 different pairs of hands, and this dedication to quality craftsmanship partnered with kaschkasch’s unparalleled design innovation has given way to a truly remarkable, European-made and designed collection.”

TON is motivated by classical and crafted design, celebrating moments of raw authenticity and an appreciation for all things materiality, mainly, the art of bending wood and the strength that comes with this technical expertise. The understated visual qualities of the P.O.V Collection reaffirms TON’s vision for sustainable and lovingly crafted furniture, with the hope that pieces like these will last generations.

Defined by its organic shape and the use of plywood material in its construction, the P.O.V Collection is exclusively available through James Richardson Furniture. The partnership between TON and James Richardson Furniture, established in 1956, continues to represent an intersection of design values between the two businesses – those of originality, quality and timeless craft.
