Park Street House by Michael Ong Design Office is a private and immersive family home that responds to place through warm tones, textures and plentiful apertures.

Park Street House is grounded in its location through an effortless connection to the outdoors. The owners requested a home that would encourage them to live outside, a direction that was integral to how the inside and outdoor spaces were balanced. The result is a series of connected zones that facilitate the dynamism of family life. The residence also inspires minimalism and encourages genuine interaction among residents; at its heart, Park Street House is about connection and creating a foundation for memories.

The result is a series of connected zones that facilitate the dynamism of family life.

Coming together under three main principles – lightness, openness and connection with nature – the home features warm, natural and neutral materials. These three pillars underpin the floorplan and experience of each space, supporting moments of connection and solitude. The architecture modulates sunlight in every form, allowing it to warm the interior throughout the year and brighten spaces. Outside, clusters of plants create visual interest and become devices to animate incoming light and provide further connections to nature.

Drawing on the owners’ love of camping and cabins, the home was envisioned as a shelter that ages with dignity, belonging to its environment rather than imposing on it. The house is a place where nature is not merely viewed but experienced, with spaces that encourage a direct and seamless connection to the landscape. A transformative move was the removal of a central living room, which was replaced by a courtyard that now acts as the heart of the home. This intervention not only enhances the inner experience but also serves as a visual and physical link to the garden, fulfilling the clients’ desire for a dynamic relationship between inside and out.

Park Street House represents a dialogue between family life, form, materiality and the natural surrounds. Michael Ong Design Office translates the clients’ core values into a living, breathing space that both cocoons and outwardly connects.
