The Fifth Design Catalogue – Pianca Launches Progetti di Design 05
Launching the fifth instalment of its design catalogue, Progetti di Design 05, furniture brand Pianca continues to champion Italian craft and innovation. Available in Australia exclusively through Collective, the depicted products exude a sense of luxury, owing to their geometric profiles.
Renowned for its authentic Italian-made furniture, Pianca works with leading international designers in order to establish pieces that will extend beyond the lifetime of furniture trends. The timeless works express a spirit of exploration that pushes towards advanced manufacturing, environmental practices and spatial concepts, enhancing the retail and hospitality sector. The latest Pianca design catalogue, Progetti di Design 05, captures the products that the brand launched at Salone del Mobile 2022 and have since been featured in the Pianca showroom in Milan and the Palazzo Pianca hotel in Venice. Within the publication, the Naan armchair by Federica Biasi and the Peonia collection by Cristina Celestino are of primary focus. Both designers have a reputation for their bold approach to form, which often produces a range of soft silhouettes inspired by the natural world.
Mirroring the sense of simplicity embodied by the humble naan bread, Naan armchair is a compact volume rounded by soft contours. Designed by Federica Biasi, the classic piece begins with an understated square base that curves at its corners, supporting the body of the chair. The seat is generous – pleasantly deep – and bordered by slim, tapered armrests as well as a backrest. With each element gently butted against the next, the profile of the chair appears visually balanced, a composition of lines running smoothly into one another. A complement to the aesthetics of any space, Naan armchair is also available in a swivel variation which allows designers to develop the functionality of their scheme.

Designed by Cristina Celestino, the Peonia collection is comprised of a sculptural sofa and armchair, both taking cues from natural geometry. Formally, the range echoes the image of a flower in bloom with outward-facing shapes and rounded layers. The armchair forms the strongest evocation of nature in spring – in a manner reminiscent of petals around a bud, the shell of the armchair curls around the edges of the seat. In contrast, the Peonia sofa stretches across the horizontal plane. Articulating two seating areas, the lavish piece speaks to the inherent flexibility of the Peonia collection. Customers can reconfigure the modular collection in response to their spatial requirements and the fabric used for upholstery is available in a variety of colours and textures.

Offering insight into a year of Italian design, Progetti di Design 05 depicts softness combined with volume in crafted dedications to the nature. The publication proudly represents the work of Biasi and Celestino whilst serving as a marker in the history of Pianca furniture.
