As a collaboration between Kerstin Thompson Architects and BVN, Queen & Collins is a meeting of worlds across time. Reimagining the buildings that are collectively known as the Gothic Bank Complex on the corner of Queen and Collins Streets, the site has been carved out as a timeless yet bold series of spaces that feel distinctly Melbourne.

Located at the heart of the CBD, Queen & Collins encompasses the commercial, retail and public spheres. Anchored by the ANZ Tower on the corner of Queen Street and Little Collins Street, the Cathedral Room is positioned as the site’s focal point. Comprised of three 19th century neo-gothic structures, the interiors celebrate moments of historical significance whilst being simultaneously propelled into the 21st century.

Located at the heart of the CBD, Queen & Collins encompasses the commercial, retail and public spheres.

Continuing to define Melbourne’s gothic architectural style, Queen & Collins is layered with a dynamic reinterpretation of material and craft. Semi open-air lanes, courtyards and squares contribute to the site – each with subtle yet considered variations – as a rich and inspired material palette reinforces the more historical elements. Brought to life through indulgent marble, coloured glass and terrazzo, a reflective interplay of light and shadow awakens both interior spaces and the pathways lit by glowing pink lanterns.

Somehow seeming both contemporary and deeply reflective of history, Queen & Collins is a creative yet rigorous synthesis of time and place.
