Ridgewood Residence, set within a verdant drive from the bustling heart of downtown San Francisco, is a celebration of Nina Maya Interiors’ ethos: the purity of materials, the infusion of unexpected elements and the meticulous curation of custom-designed details. In response to a brief seeking a fresh and intimately landscape-connected residence, the studio set out to create a home that was not only intrinsically tied to the natural surroundings but also served as a canvas to showcase their extensive art collection.

Ridgewood Residence, set within a verdant drive from the bustling heart of downtown San Francisco, is a celebration of Nina Maya Interiors’ ethos: the purity of materials, the infusion of unexpected elements and the meticulous curation of custom-designed details.

The residence unfolds as a series of generously proportioned spaces, designed to foster a profound connection between the interior and the exterior landscape. The integration of soft, rounded organic forms and a focus on natural materials echo the undulating, forest-like terrain outside, creating a harmonious dialogue between the built environment and its setting. This philosophy extends from the communal living areas on the ground floor to the private sanctuary of the parents’ retreat upstairs, culminating in a cohesive narrative that weaves through every corner of the home.

Central to the conceptual development was the challenge of distilling the clients’ brief into a tangible reality, a process that was both open-ended and highly collaborative. The careful selection of lighting fixtures, such as the striking Gabriel Scott pendant and the elegantly subdued Articolo bathroom sconces, exemplifies the studio’s approach to creating atmospheres that are both dramatic and intimately personal.

Nina Maya Interiors further defined the home’s character with a carefully chosen mix of bespoke furniture and globally sourced art pieces from celebrated designers like Gubi, Arflex, Ligne Roset and Pierre Paulin, alongside an array of eye-catching vintage finds. Adding a personal touch, the studio commissioned bespoke pieces, including a rug from Alex Proba for the living room. Notably, an artwork by Australian Gregory Hodge, commissioned through Sullivan+Strumpf during his Paris residency, now takes pride of place in the living room. These carefully curated elements not only bring bursts of creativity and flair but also contribute to the distinct character and atmosphere of the home.

Perhaps the most remarkable aspect of this endeavour was the studio’s ability to traverse the constraints of distance and the global pandemic. Orchestrating the project across time zones, the Nina Maya Interiors team demonstrated an extraordinary capacity to adapt, overseeing the transformation without once setting foot on site.
