Sandy Shades Residence by Naz Design
Located in Sydney, Sandy Shades Residence features sweeping curves and a colour and material palette reminiscent of the gentle hues of sand dunes.
For the young family living here, the home needed to fulfil two essential roles: an everyday hub for their busy lives and an inviting space for entertaining family and friends with ease. Interior designer Naz Erani of Naz Design responded by creating flexible, open spaces that embrace a palette of soft, subtle tones, fostering a calm and minimalist environment. To maintain a tidy space, Erani integrated ample hidden storage throughout the home while ensuring smooth transitions between indoor living areas and the outdoors.
The centrally located living, kitchen and dining area effortlessly flows to the al fresco dining and poolside, creating a practical space for hosting large groups. Beneath double-height ceilings, the dining table offers expansive views of the pool, complemented by an adjacent built-in bar and wine fridge.
The beautifully curved timber surrounding the five-metre-long kitchen island echoes the textured contrast of the window screens on the home’s street-facing facade. These sweeping curves serve as a unifying motif throughout the residence, evident in the living room where a low-slung, round-edged quartzite mantle meets a subtly curved wall. This design element continues into the main ensuite, where gently curving walls wrap around the double vanity.
Quartzite features prominently throughout the dwelling, particularly on the splashbacks in the kitchen and bar, where its natural grain reflects the patterns of sand dunes.
Quartzite features prominently throughout the dwelling, particularly on the splashbacks in the kitchen and bar, where its natural grain reflects the patterns of sand dunes. This cool stone is warmed by oak joinery and expansive, textured linen couches in the lounge. The space is further enriched by thoughtfully selected furnishings that add depth and colour, including the brandy-hued Domo Oyster armchair and the dynamic Brazilian Rosewood Catavento coffee table.
Upstairs, the home office is bathed in natural light from a full-height corner window, offering views of the outdoors. While it maintains privacy, the space remains closely connected to the lively common areas. The gentle curves and soft tones flow from the public spaces into the cool, airy bedrooms and bathrooms, creating a cohesive aesthetic that perfectly aligns with the residence’s coastal setting.
