Schiavello Launches ColourLab Volume 4 Range of Finishes
Schiavello is again working with Italian colour master Giulio Ridolfo to create a new range of palettes designed to imbue workplaces with a sense of tranquillity.
Schiavello – which has been creating and servicing world-class work and living environments for close to 60 years – has announced the launch of the next iteration of its collaboration with Italian colour master Giulio Ridolfo. The ColourLab Volume 4: Materiality with Purpose collection of finishes and tones was inspired by “the constructed boundary between nature and culture” and is designed to bring a sense of calm to working environments.
The brand’s partnership with Ridolfo, a graduate of Milan’s acclaimed Domus Academy design school and a colour advisor to world-renowned brands such as Vitra and Kvadrat, began a decade ago. In mid-2023, Ridolfo returned to Australia to work with Schiavello’s design manager, Nick Tennant, and ColourLab Volume 4 is the deeply considered result – a collection of materials and finishes designed specifically for Schiavello furniture.
Over many months, Ridolfo and Tennant worked to subtly tune the colour range, which started with “very vibrational colours,” the Italian told The Local Project during his visit. “I wanted to work on some more ethereal tones that could give a sense of belonging to a more serene space.” Throughout the process, the two men discovered a shared creative foundation. “I think the way Giulio approaches work is, in a sense, similar to mine, in that we start with a broader concept,” says Tennant, “and we can discuss that from a range of different angles. But then we can also be very specific about a detail that is suitable or unsuitable.
“The new collection envisions a series of atmospheres and moods rendered in graduated tones and elemental colour applications,” he continues. “It draws inspiration from the constructed boundary between nature and culture, environments which are characterised by flowing, graduated tones – either light and dark – and punctuated with slivers of organic hues – think pockets of wildflowers and trees in a field beneath an expressive cloudy sky.”
ColourLab Volume 4 comprises two core palettes, Ethereal and Urban, supported by two accent tones, Organic and Satellites. Ethereal and Urban are designed for application across larger surface areas, while Organic and Satellite are more suited as smaller highlights that create contrast. Schiavello’s 3D material compositions help bring this proportionality to life, across light, medium and dark colour schemes.
