Studio Garizio
After more than a decade delivering high-end residential projects across Australia and internationally, architect Danica Garizio established Studio Garizio, a Gold Coast-based architecture and interiors practice.
The studio works across private residential, multi-residential and boutique hospitality projects, with a practice model defined by a genuine depth of attention. “Studio Garizio was established to ensure my direct involvement from concept through to completion,” Garizio explains. That principle shapes the way the studio operates. By taking on a limited number of projects each year, Studio Garizio can prioritise continuity, from the quality of its client relationships to the resolution of the final built work.
“Coming from a large and culturally diverse family background has given me an appreciation for the many different ways people live, gather and connect within a home, which naturally informs the way we approach each design.”
The philosophy underpinning the work – clarity, restraint and emotional intelligence – was present well before the studio formally existed. It was refined through years of practise across complex residential projects, working alongside experienced teams, consultants and clients navigating an often overwhelming process. “I’ve seen how overwhelming the process can become through permits, approvals, tendering and the volume of decision-making involved,” she says, “so creating clarity and ease throughout the experience became just as important to me as the final architectural outcome.”
That thinking carries through to how each project begins. Rather than working from a room-by-room brief, early conversations at Studio Garizio focus on how a home will actually be used: morning routines, the way a family moves through space, the need for privacy or connection and long-term intentions for the residence. “Coming from a large and culturally diverse family background has given me an appreciation for the many different ways people live, gather and connect within a home, which naturally informs the way we approach each design.”
Restraint, in practice, requires discipline. On a current residential project in Portsea, Victoria, the studio designed a sunken living room beneath a double-height volume. During the design process, additional ceiling articulation and material variation were explored and ultimately set aside. “By keeping the palette more restrained and allowing the scale, symmetry and natural light within the volume to become the focus, the space felt significantly calmer and more powerful,” Garizio notes.
Studio Garizio is registered across Australia’s east coast and continues to work with clients in Victoria and New South Wales, alongside a growing presence on the Gold Coast. Garizio sees genuine momentum there in the way people are engaging with architecture and the experience of home. Looking further ahead, luxury hotels feel like a natural creative extension for the studio, reflecting its focus on atmosphere, materiality and the way people move through and remember a space.

“A good architect can design a beautiful home,” Garizio says, “but what separates a great architect is the ability to guide the entire process with clarity, consistency and genuine care for both the client and the outcome.” For Studio Garizio, architecture is not only about the finished home but the experience of creating it.
