Stylecraft: Supporting Australian design
From the Australian Furniture Design Award to a slew of deeply considered new ranges, Stylecraft continues to foster the best in local creative talent.
At its core, Stylecraft is a brand synonymous with quality design, catering for a wide spectrum of environments, from commercial and educational to hospitality and residential spaces. Despite developing partnerships with renowned international designers, the company is ultimately underpinned by a commitment to local Australian design and the growth of emerging talent.
Prioritising work with local makers, craftspeople and artisans, Stylecraft has become a true pillar of Australian design, developing partnerships with a roster of highly regarded creatives. In the process, it has simultaneously offered shorter lead times, greater scope for customisation and the quality that comes with highly trusted Australian-made certifications.
Furthering this commitment to supporting Australian design, the company – in partnership with the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) – founded the Australian Furniture Design Award (AFDA) in 2015. The awards program has provided invaluable recognition and tangible support for designers over the past nine years.
James Walsh, known for his bold use of fabric and natural materiality, has been part of Stylecraft’s family of designers since his Anthropic bench won the AFDA prize in 2020. In more recent times, Walsh has released the Tuck collection, a series of lounge chairs and armchairs which meld the organic beauty of timber with soft upholstery (since extended to include a coffee table).
A key part of the Australian design family at Stylecraft, Ross Gardam has had a busy start to 2024, releasing the Adapt Work range. With the same design tropes as the Adapt Lounge and Adapt Hub, Adapt Work is a flexible desked workstation perfectly suited for today’s dynamic workspaces.
Industrial designer Keith Melbourne recently released a new collection, Hélice, which represents the latest evolution of his distinctive design language. Hélice challenges established preconceptions around commercial furniture design and draws on the studio’s Avion collection, elevating the form into a new system of seating. The modular system offers designers the freedom to create unique furniture configurations.
Rounding out Stylecraft’s latest offerings is Studio Skeehan’s Hoshi Butter and Tag collections, designed by Tom Skeehan. Defined by the Hoshi frame, coupled with a softer cushion, the Hoshi Butter armchair brings a renewed sense of playful elegance to the heralded Hoshi range. Launching alongside the armchair – which made its debut at Melbourne Design Week – is the Tag modular collection. Designed exclusively for Stylecraft, this modular lounging system combines bespoke tailoring with innovative functionality, making it the ideal furniture solution for public spaces.
