Applying texture to a wall surface can bring a new dimension and personality to a home’s interior, adding visual interest and character, creating a play of light and shadow that changes throughout the day and providing detailing to enhance a specific interior design style. The launch of Surround by Laminex, a highly versatile decorative wall panelling solution, offers a new way for architects and designers to achieve such effects.
Surround by Laminex panels are crafted from moisture-resistant medium-density fibreboard (MDF) and come pre-primed with water-based paint, so they can be installed straight away and simply finished with the desired paint colour. Whether for a full or part wall, the range can be specified in a range of panel sizes suited to all kinds of applications and settings, including hallways, bedrooms, mudrooms, living spaces and more.
There are eight profiles to choose from, which can be used to achieve a variety of looks, from a bold statement to a timeless backdrop for everyday life. Highlights include Batten 100, a modern, masculine take on classic timber panelling that features defined boards separated by deep, straight-edged grooves; Demi Round 40, a softly curved profile that lends itself particularly well to half-wall application when finished with a dado rail; and Scallop 45, an undulating curved surface that will bring a luxurious feel to both modern and classic interiors. The profiles work beautifully on their own but can also be paired together on a single surface – for example, the use of Scallop 45 and the more finely detailed Scallop 22.5 can be combined to create an elegant, textural wall.

Surround by Laminex also comes in two popular “timber board” profiles, Classic VJ 100 and Heritage 150. These are designed with traditional interior styles, from Hamptons to heritage and beyond, in mind. They can also play an influential role in modern spaces, particularly when painted with rich colour or contrasted with more contemporary materials and finishes.
The range is not only focused on aesthetics, it is also highly practical for both designers and homeowners. The panels’ impact-resistant MDF construction has been engineered to provide hardwearing durability even in the most high-traffic areas. Their technical design makes them quick and easy to fix to plasterboard, timber, steel, brick or masonry wall surfaces, locking together with a tongue-and-groove system to deliver an exceptional fit and finish. Then all they need is to be painted. The end result is a highly attractive, impact-resistant wall surface perfectly integrated with the rest of the interior space.
The production of Surround by Laminex panels is consistent with the company’s commitment to local manufacturing. The panels are made Australia from MDF produced at Laminex’s Gympie manufacturing plant using local timbers sustainably sourced in accordance with the Australian Standard ‘chain of custody for forest products’ system (AS 4707:2014). This ensures that quality and craftmanship is closely monitored throughout the production process while reducing the impact of the built environment on our planet’s natural resources.
