Crystal Clear Choices – Table Service by Studio Shand
Designed to counter the trend of disposable objects, Table Service by Studio Shand is a new display and serve collection that is intended to be re-used and cherished. Carved and detailed from polished acrylic blocks and prisms, Table Service exemplifies a love of material transparency and reflection.
Created as a family of objects, Table Service caters to families of all sizes and consists of napkin rings, chopstick rests, cake stands, tissue boxes, containers and much more. Designed to be more than just objects for the home, Table Service is reminiscent of the midcentury era of dinner parties and the time when table settings played a vital role in all celebrations. Showcasing Studio Shand’s love for crystalline materials, Table Service “is made from acrylic in various forms that is then cast, extruded, routed, cut, polished and interlocked,” explains Benjamin Jay Shand, Director and Architect at Studio Shand.
Creating allure through its robust yet delicate-looking materiality, the energetic collection is created from a primary panel of prisms ¬¬¬– often employed for commercial lighting aspects – and repurposed for the assembly of products. Moreover, some of Studio Shand’s original prototypes were conceived from previous commercial architectural projects and reinforce the idea that this collection counters the trend of disposable wares. Due to the material’s strength and resistance to wear, the Table Service collection is facilitated with an extended product life.
Set to restore the love of hosting and decorating tables, Studio Shand has created Table Service for those desiring a sophisticated yet functional product. Through its distinctive design and manufacturing processes, the collection promotes both an ecological and stylish choice for the home.
