Founded in 2018 by Marc Reed of Candana and designer Kaety Thompson, Oliver Thom embodies a distinctly Australian approach to bathrooms.

Its philosophy centres on the belief that while the kitchen may be the heart of the home, the bathroom is its soul, where daily self-care rituals unfold. The brand champions thoughtful, sustainable products from carefully selected brands that transform bathrooms into personal sanctuaries.

The brand champions thoughtful, sustainable products from carefully selected brands that transform bathrooms into personal sanctuaries.

This vision aligns seamlessly in the partnership with TF Design, a product design studio and workshop based in San Francisco. “TF Design was one of the first brands we signed on when founding Oliver Thom,” recalls Thompson. “I was at the Maison&Objet fair in Paris when a chance meeting with Tina Frey at TF Design’s stand sparked a conversation. We’ve been advocates of her brand ever since. Our customers value the studio’s slower, more considered approach to production, and the aesthetics align perfectly with our philosophy.

“All of TF Design’s products are handmade, with a wabi-sabi quality we really appreciate. The hand-finished resin is a favourite of ours, bringing warmth to bathroom spaces. The products draw inspiration from nature with their organic and tactile shapes and finishes.” That initial conversation led to Oliver Thom becoming TF Design’s exclusive Australian stockist, and the close relationship has led to a new iteration of TF’s existing Arc collection in a new colourway, Sage, and with an exclusive new bath tray.

The new Sage palette was chosen because of the green tone’s calming properties, which help to enhance a sense of relaxation in bathing spaces.

The original Arc range brings Zen-like simplicity to bathrooms through essential products like tissue boxes, soap dispensers and bins, available in Grey, Cement and White. The new Sage palette was chosen because of the green tone’s calming properties, which help to enhance a sense of relaxation in bathing spaces.

The bath tray has quickly become a signature piece, initially offered in classic colours before expanding to special-edition shades in response to a demand for subtle options. “Collaborating with Tina was a no-brainer, as we knew the properties of resin would be perfect for this application,” says Thompson. “We wanted something super sleek and minimal that could work in lots of different spaces but still had the organic feel of her other pieces.”

Embodying its design ethos, Oliver Thom’s newly refurbished flagship store in Sydney’s Woollahra perfectly showcases the company’s range. Reed and Thompson collaborated with Studio Gemma to design a centre-display console housing the POS machine and in-built handwash station. Crafted by IGS Joinery, the console features an all-green colour palette, with Japanese Fleck mosaic tiles from Surface Gallery and an in-built basin with a Vola mixer from Candana.

“The textures and colours really help our customers envision their bathroom accessories against different backdrops and benchtops,” says Thompson. “The area also doubles as an in-store testing space for our different liquid washes, offering a great way for customers to smell and experience the products before purchasing.”
