To experience is to learn, but to discover is to inspire – a philosophy that encapsulates the journey of 10 architects from Australia and New Zealand across Italy’s breath taking Venetian region as part of the Brombal Discover & Inspire Tour. Promoted as an opportunity to explore Italy whilst learning more about luxury metal window and door company Brombal, what followed was an unforgettable voyage deep into the heart of Italian culture, architecture and design.

At its core, Brombal is a 50-year-old family-owned business driven by passion and innovation that specialises in the design and manufacture of luxury metal windows and doors. Yet, looking beyond the brand name, past the products and the global projects, one discovers an industry-leading company committed to building for the future whilst also maintaining the rich traditions of the past.

The inherent passion that flows through the entire Brombal company started to take hold of the touring party, as they became more immersed in Italian culture and better informed in the history of Brombal.

In late October 2022, a group of 10 architects from Australia and New Zealand commenced the journey of a lifetime. Guided by the Brombal team, the group explored Italy’s famed Venetian region, taking in the sights of Venice, Bassano del Grappa and everything in-between, experiencing architectural masterpieces from the likes of Carlo Scarpa and Andrea Palladio. “My impression of the tour has been outstanding,” says Juliana Junqueira, Senior Associate at Sydney-based firm Stafford Architecture. “Everything has been done to perfection.”

Early in the tour, between courses of Italian food, glasses of prosecco and visits to Scarpa’s modernist masterpieces, it became evident that this group was truly part of something special. The inherent passion that flows through the entire Brombal company started to take hold of the touring party, as they became more immersed in Italian culture and better informed in the history of Brombal. Founded in 1970 by Pietro Brombal – a man still to be found on the factory floor to this very day – and currently overseen by Pietro’s sons, Leonardo and Pierpaolo, family is the cornerstone upon which the Brombal brand has been built. The values of loyalty, precision, collaboration and quality are evident in every aspect of the business and were certainly impressed upon the architects present on the tour who were made to feel part of the Brombal family from the minute they touched down in Italy.

Living ‘la dolce vita’ and waiting for a potential hard sell that never came, the architects were encouraged to formulate their own perceptions of the Brombal product through tours of the company’s technologically advanced office and factory space, as well as nearby partner glass and aluminium businesses.

Living ‘la dolce vita’ and waiting for a potential hard sell that never came, the architects were encouraged to formulate their own perceptions of the Brombal product through tours of the company’s technologically advanced office and factory space, as well as nearby partner glass and aluminium businesses. “Our contact with the factory and understanding the level of quality produced by the Brombal family has been eye-opening for me,” says Juliana. “The tour has been a great experience in understanding the Italian way of life and how we can introduce the Brombal products into the Australian and New Zealand markets.”

The appropriate ending to a journey focused upon family and Italian culture, the group spent their last night in Italy as guests of honour at a barbeque dinner at the Brombal family home. Here they found Pietro, Leonardo and Pierpaolo cooking on a custom-built steel barbeque and were invited to dine as one whilst reflecting on the incredible experiences of the past week, sharing memories that are sure to last a lifetime. “It has been an incredible experience touring around Italy, and it is something I will remember for the rest of my life,” says Juliana. “I have enjoyed gaining a firsthand knowledge of the Brombal brand, while discovering how much the Brombal family believe in their product, a product we all now believe in as well.”

For the 10 architects present at the Discover & Inspire Tour, Brombal and all that defines it as a company will forever hold a special place in their hearts.

Each place visited represented beautiful insight into Italian culture and values, values upon which the Brombal brand has been built.

With a strong global presence in Europe, North America, India, New Zealand and a recently opened showroom in Sydney, Australia, design professionals are encouraged to discover Brombal from within their own region.
