A bygone inner-city terrace transformed into a timeless Victorian residence, The Great Dane House II welcomes the home into the 21st century while preserving its original character.

Located within the Yarra River parklands in Richmond, Great Dane’s founder Anton Assaad saw the house as a unique opportunity for an inspired renovation. One of the last remaining terraces on the block, Anton adds warmth and tactility through a considered palette and a curated selection of furnishings. The home also reflects the Great Dane brand’s passion for timeless Scandinavian design – showcasing its timeless collection.

The renovation elevates and updates the home without removing existing heritage details. As such, original features have been restored. An original timber staircase has been salvaged, original Tasmanian timber oak floorboards brought back to life and high ceilings are retained.

At the same time, additional spaces and new details modernise the home. Large windows welcome an abundance of natural light, while the addition of a secluded studio or home office makes space for modern-day living. Similarly, the introduction of an interconnecting courtyard offers a dynamic environment, allowing for entertaining and large gatherings.

Once inside, vibrant artwork and playful interiors are complemented by a bright colour palette, with green and pink hues used for the walls.

However, most contemporary additions come from the furniture and updated palette. A dark forest green façade hints at what is to come inside the home. This is juxtaposed by classic furniture and heritage detailing, which imbues a sense of warmth. For furniture, Anton wanted to create a home that acts as a testament to the brand ethos of Great Dane Furniture, featuring lots of Danish furniture and one-of-a-kind pieces.

Representing Anton’s passion for combining the past and present, Great Dane House II is a sensitive restoration that beautifully rejuvenates the home. It is now available for acquisition.
