Yabatu stone baths and basins represent strength, the beauty of imperfection and a timeless aesthetic with a deep connection to the land they were crafted from.

For more than 18 years, Yabatu’s highly skilled stonemasons have been making statement baths and basins, cut from the exquisite stones of Indonesia. Its handcrafted pieces reveal the individual character of the stone by paying homage to the natural beauty of the materials. Now the company is bringing its range to Australia.

All of the range is handmade, and Yabatu aims to continue to preserve and celebrate local artistry for generations to come.

Yabatu’s journey starts in East Java, an area known for its high-quality marble and generations of skilled craftsmanship. These craftsmen are familiar with the materials and use traditional techniques to create unique, artisanal quality products. All of the range is handmade, and Yabatu aims to continue to preserve and celebrate this local artistry for generations to come.

Part of Yabatu’s ethos is to source quality stones and ensure these stones are honoured by using the materials in their entirety. Each stone is chosen for its individual characteristics, such as the deep, rich tones of red marble, the gentle translucency and layered detail of onyx, or the cool complexity of grey howlite. Once the materials are secured, Yabatu works with local stonemasons to design and manually carve and shape the pieces into baths and basins. The offcuts are then transformed into smaller statues, vases, jars and stools – even the marble dust and chips are used for mosaic tiling and terrazzo flooring to ensure no material is left behind.

Yabatu focuses on highlighting these two elements – the beauty of the natural stone and the craftsmen who bring it to life. By basing its processes on this philosophy, the company can offer refined, one-of-a-kind pieces that are built to last. Each bath and basin is a work of art, carrying the raw, understated beauty that only time, nature and fine craftsmanship can create. The most striking designs include the polished and curvaceous Maja or round Battoa baths with their honed interior and exterior, which look particularly luminous in onyx.

The company offers a range of bath and basin designs in a rich palette of textures and tones that work seamlessly with any interior design style, from minimalist to maximalist. Custom pieces can also be commissioned for special projects, helping to bring unique visions to life.
