A historical address and shopping precinct that’s home to more than 300 businesses is undergoing a significant redevelopment under the vision of Orchard Piper and Kerry Hill Architects. The collaboration has set forth to make Toorak Village a statement of permanence and architectural excellence.

Orchard Piper’s addition to the resurgent Toorak Village, five kilometres south-east of Melbourne’s CBD, will see the contemporary development become a landmark address. Toorak Village received unanimous support from the City of Stonnington and will, upon completion, be a six-storey residential building comprising nine exclusive residences with two apartments per floor and an already-sold 400-square-metre penthouse. Each apartment has three bedrooms, three side-by-side car spaces and a private lobby, as well as shared access to a resident gymnasium and a concierge, creating a memorable entry experience.

The residential opportunities are complemented by high-end ground-floor retail and commercial opportunities. This includes premium offices that will front Toorak Road and sit above a defined retail colonnade, where the locally celebrated pharmacy C Wallis & Son will eventually return. The street level activation ensures that the streetscape of Toorak Village retains a communal sensibility, something everyone can enjoy for generations to come.

The development is situated on the north-east corner within Toorak Village, centrally located to provide immediate connection to the surrounding amenity and ever-evolving village atmosphere. Orchard Piper appoint-ed Kerry Hill Architects, bringing a portfolio of award-winning luxury hotels and resorts to the table. For the studio’s first project in Victoria, Kerry Hill Architects has applied a global sensitivity and imbued both the architecture and interior design with a level of grandeur not typically seen in the Australian property market. Oak floorboards, bronze metal shelving, various shades of marble and other deeply considered details create a neutral yet warm interior palette.

Scheduled for completion over the next five years, Toorak Village will benefit from both the luxurious exclusivity of its locale and convenience of the community at the doorstep. Through robust materiality, timeless design and the biophilic assistance of landscape practice Dangar Barin Smith, this mixed-use development will establish a sense of longevity as an asset for the neighbourhood.
