We take a look at what’s new in design, from an elegant cake stand and ceramics to timeless lighting and a refined furniture collection.
Temple cake stand by Dinosaur Designs
The team at Dinosaur Designs is serving cake! The new Temple cake stand features an elevated round plate with a lipped edge, which means that any oozing icing or filling won’t drip and make a mess. The intention for the cake stand is that it has been designed for monumental cake events, but we think you’ll want to use it for everyday dessert occasions as well. Available in six colours, the Temple cake stand showcases the handmade nature of Dinosaur Designs’ products, with each one different in terms of size, colour and texture. This is a showstopping centrepiece that will add height and drama to any tablescape.
Nicolò Morales ceramics by Paola Lenti
Established in 1994, Paola Lenti has built its reputation on its striking use of colour and materials. For the Italian furniture brand’s most recent collection, artist and designer Nicolò Morales, who is colourblind, was commissioned to create four pieces, all suitable for indoor and outdoor use. Morales’ work draws inspiration from the ancient ceramic craft found in Caltagirone in Sicily, where he lives and works. The collection includes the glass-topped Helico and Primula coffee tables, the Anemone ceramic side table and Stelo, an adjustable decorative structure. Handmade from materials including glass and majolica, each piece is subtly different.
Model 600 lamp by Bottega Veneta and Flos
The Venetian-born Gino Sarfatti is considered one of the most significant figures in 20th-century Italian industrial design. Throughout his career, he designed more than 600 lights, including the innovative and playful Model 600 for Flos. Bottega Veneta has collaborated with Flos to produce a limited collection of the Model 600, which was first released in 1968, in the fashion house’s distinctive Intrecciato leatherwork. The leather-covered metal base of the lamp allows the user to angle the light source to exactly where they want it. Available in two sizes in red, two shades of green, grey and black.
Pawson collection by Dinesen
A testament to the enduring partnership between British architect John Pawson and Danish timber company Dinesen that spans more than three decades, the Pawson furniture collection explores the dialogue between designer, material and craftsmanship. Pawson is known as a minimalist and says that this collection is “the essence of the thinking that has shaped my work since the beginning. Everything about these pieces is pared back to the logic and poetry of the wood.” The range draws inspiration from original designs Pawson created with Dinesen in 1992 and includes a dining table, bench, stool, sofa, lounge chair, day bed and coffee table – all made from Douglas fir.
