We take a look at what’s new in design, from iridescent Danish chairs and sculptural vases to a boomerang-shaped desk and buttery-soft modular seating.
Series 7 7:14 AM chair by Fritz Hansen
This year, Fritz Hansen celebrates the 70th anniversary of Arne Jacobsen’s seminal Series 7 chair with the limited-edition 7:14 AM collection. This new range features five hues – blue, violet, pink, beige and green – inspired by the Danish autumn sunrise. Each chair features an iridescent, gold-toned metallic base that reflects light and enhances these ethereal shades. Known as the ‘Sevener’ in Denmark, the Series 7 chair debuted in 1955 and has since become a symbol of minimalist design and versatility. This edition, available in Australia at Cult, invites a renewed appreciation of its timeless contemporary form.
Lituus vase collection by Georg Jensen
Crafted by Copenhagen designer and architect Anne Boysen, the Lituus vase collection by Georg Jensen blends artistic expression with functionality. These sculptural pieces feature diagonal tubular shapes that provide structural support for flowers throughout their life cycle, from “bud to full bloom”. Inspired by nature’s rhythms, the intersecting tubes create a dynamic sense of movement. Known for transforming complex ideas into intuitive designs, with an emphasis on longevity, Boysen brings her signature approach to this collection. This latest collaboration with Georg Jensen is available in three sizes – medium, large and floor.
Boomerang desk by Enzo Mari
Gebrüder Thonet Vienna (GTV) has reissued Enzo Mari’s 2001 Boomerang desk, which is celebrated for its warmth and simplicity. The desk embodies the Italian artist and designer’s dedication to pure forms and rational construction. It features a curved glass top resting on a boomerang-shaped beechwood plank, supported by four rounded legs. Presented at this year’s Salone del Mobile, the release underscores both Mari’s and GTV’s enduring influence. The desk’s organic shape and use of natural materials balance function and aesthetics, making it a statement piece while staying true to Mari’s vision of accessible, intelligent design.
Bread & Butter collection by Tacchini
Known for her whimsical, eye-catching designs, British designer Faye Toogood’s latest collection for Tacchini – which debuted at this year’s Salone del Mobile – is inspired by the therapeutic act of baking bread and slabbing a fresh loaf with soft butter. “Some people have transcendental meditation or prayer,” says the multidisciplinary creative. “I have my sourdough starter and half an hour of sticky, squashy, floury, sensory, in-the-present pleasure.” This momentary practice has been stretched into the form of the Butter sofa, an inviting modular lounge to melt into, and the Bread console and Butter side tables, all carved from stained ash wood with maple inlays.
