Respectful of the existing traditional facades in the neighbourhood, the architect ensures the design of the residence integrates modern elements while preserving the inherent charm and character. Adorned in materials used at the time of its original build, such as copper and limewashed brick, the abode blends old and new, complementing existing red brick structures. In addition to the new features, salvaged heart pine beams – from a historic 1850s building within the city – were repurposed as both structural elements and incorporated into the flooring and windows. Retaining elements with their own historical narratives enriches the overall celebration of heritage within this intricately layered building. Natural stone delineates the newly defined kitchen, emphasising its importance within a contemporary residence. Muted finishes on connecting floors also further enhance the everyday experience of the home.
