Can great design prevent crime?

Hosted by Criminology and Justice Studies at RMIT and Community Crime Prevention Victoria, this event will discuss Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) as adopted in many jurisdictions around the world. If done properly it can help to prevent crime when new residential, commercial, retail and other developments are being planned. This event will discuss what CPTED looks like if done properly done properly.

In this public lecture, Dr Leanne Monchuk (University of Huddersfield) and Dr Garner Clancey (Sydney University) will provide a summary of CPTED and discuss key developments arising from their research into the implementation of CPTED.

Whether you are a student, academic, planner, developer, architect, placemaker, community safety officer, or crime prevention practitioner, you will benefit from this discussion of current CPTED challenges and developments from two of the foremost international researchers in this space.

About Dr Monchuk

Dr Monchuk is a Senior Lecturer in Criminology and Policing within the School of Human and Health Sciences (University of Huddersfield). Dr Monchuk’s research interests include environmental criminology, crime prevention, policy analysis and evaluation and qualitative and participatory research methods.

About Dr Garner Clancey

Dr Garner Clancey is a Senior Lecturer in Criminology within the University of Sydney Law School. Dr Clancey’s research interested include: crime trends, crime prevention, policing, juvenile justice, criminal justice and social policy.
