From The Design Studio
DesignOffice have once again worked with the Molonglo Group and been introduced to the team at A.Baker to design the all-encompassing bakery, bar, and culinary destination on the ground floor axis of the New Acton Pavilion.
After being ravaged by fire in 2011, the anchor tenancy was left as a charred shell. The history etched into these walls has been retained and embraced providing a textured and layered backdrop against a new palette of bluestone, galvanised steel and leather which defines A.Baker.
A central open kitchen on the ground floor flanks an open staircase providing access down into the undercroft of the A.Baker bar.
Downstairs is anchored by a monolithic rolled steel bar and canopy, split apart and lined in red Alicante marble. Concrete, bluestone and leather line the perimeter to provide an intimate venue with glimpses through into the working bakery next door.
Controlled openings in the new glass and galvanised steel staircase allow glimpses to and from the intimate retreat of the bar below up to the bustle of the kitchen and dining room above.
Furniture by Walter Knoll and Great Dane is complimented by custom pieces by Don Cameron.
