Balgownie
by Dayne Lawrie Constructions
Balgownie is an award winning spec home by Dayne Lawrie Constructions located on the Sunshine Coast that has taken the retro movement and given it a modern twist.
Located in the exclusive Peregian Springs on the Sunshine Coast, this beautiful modern home is signified by bright and open spaces, western red cedar timber and clean, contemporary lines. The property features an open central courtyard that features a large swimming pool and a secondary outdoor space that provides natural light to the adjacent rooms of the home. The overall feel of the Balgownie property is a refreshing connection between the built and natural environment.
The matte black and grey, contrasted with stark white and western red cedar colour palette continues the laid back feeling created throughout the home. Notable materials used internally and externally are scyon axon cladding, polished concrete floors with a burnished finish, and herringbone subway carrara tiles.
Feature lighting illuminates each room and is accompanied by glass ceilings, large windows and louvers that provide energy efficient natural lighting solutions to the home.
The front facade characterises the modern mid-century architectural shapes, which coupled with contemporary materials and finishings, provides optimum curb-appeal. The folded flashing that appears on the external facade was done to conceal a thick adjoining beam, while adding diversity to the appearance.
A striking feature timber wall lies central within the home encasing a seamless hidden door. Concealed hinges have been strategically placed to create a perfect appearance of clean lines and invisibility. These hinges create a seamless solid timber cube within the house that has the ability to surprise anyone walking through.
Dayne Lawrie Constructions paid specific attention to detail whilst building the Balgownie home and this is evident through the beautiful modern exterior. The floor to ceiling internal doors, ceiling mounted robe doors and an internal daybed are simple yet effective finishes that make all the difference.
The Balgownie project received three awards in the 2017 HIA Sunshine Coast awards and went on to win Spec House of the Year in the QLD HIA Awards.
