From the Architect
Situated on the outskirts of Valencia, in one of the largest shopping centres within Spain, daily populated by thousands of visitors, nine Valencian restaurants bet on a new concept of catering and begin their business in the new Street Market de Bonaire.
Held by a very tight budget it’s final location is a group of recycled maritime containers centred in an unsheltered car park, which have been isolated from the immediate surroundings. The environment itself was not initially a comfortable area for having lunch. The strategy to draw in customers has been to develop an “oasis” closed by reused walls, including containers and pallets.
The overarching objective was to create a Mediterranean environment utilising spaces that provided shadow, platforms, trees and pergolas. The lightning and the illustrations designed by a local artist gave the place a dynamic and intriguing atmosphere. In order to join this space to the city of Valencia, multiple local graphic designers have displayed their skills in the different containers.
