Chez Mademoiselle
by Studio Y.
The Chez Mademoiselle patisserie designed by Melbourne interior design firm Studio Y. is a fine example of local interior design with a distinctly European styling. Located on charming Greville Street, Chez Mademoiselle, is Prahran’s newest French café and deli. Exuding elegance and unflinchingly feminine, Chez Mademoiselle is high-end but quirky, playful yet bold, and quite unlike any café experience currently on offer in Melbourne.
The Melbourne cafe proffers colourful macarons, fresh croissants and sumptuous wines in front but her personality changes as you move through the space. The front area is quite neutral with bold line work and soft tones and works as the browsing area. The rear of the cafe is a surprisingly plush ladies’ lounge adorned with floral wallpaper, velvet upholsteries and ravishing pink hues. Acting as the ‘dressing room’ or ladies lounge, it is the space which shows the alternative ego of our strong modern woman.
The lighting scheme in the front area was masterminded by ambience lighting and features suspended directional lights which solidifies the retail feel and also complements the pressed metal ceilings. We also imported unique Hat Lamps from ENO Studio in France which playfully beckon passersby from the front windows. In the back space our custom wall lights were commissioned by local designer Volker Haug. The rose marble back plates and white powder coated frame work provided a perfect companion to our hummingbird wallpaper from English designer Mathew Williamson. The end result of this stunning interior design by Studio Y. is a luxurious environment reminiscent of the Champs-Elysées’ finest patisseries that provides an authentic French café experience without having to dust off your passport The Chez Mademoiselle by Studio Y. is truly a stunning example of local Australian interior design with a distinctive European styling.
