Hayley House
by James and Hayley Pannekoecke
The revamp of an existing 1970’s property, custom renovated by home owners James and Hayley Pannekoecke of Kip & Co.
Located on a 4,000 square foot retreat in Victoria, Australia, Hayley House is an existing home, which has been revitalised to a modern and quirky space by the owners of the house James and Hayley Pannekoecke; who is the co-founder of Kip & Co, lifestyle brand of bedding, cushions, curtains and more – all inspired by the colours and laughter of life.
Creating an intimate home for their family of five, Hayley House has been turned into a unique styled home of bold colours and fresh architectural design.
Inspiration behind the redesign, was to work with an already pretty home; of open spaces and plenty of natural light, to create a timeless design throughout each space of the home, which fits the personality of each member of the family. From the playful boys’ bathroom to the serenity of the main bathroom; which is more a spa retreat than a bathroom.
The house took two years for James (with help from Hayley), to slowly work his way through each space, in order to remove the previous clean and sterile look of the home, and convert it into a more comfortable home, of warmth and friendliness.
With the addition of bold colours, custom design and built made sinks, bathtubs and even a giant fireplace, the home was slowly converted into a vibrant, modern home, which amplifies its character.
Starting with the fireplace, which runs the length of the house; from the lounge area to the kitchen, redesign of the existing 70s house involved a focus on changing a lot of the existing open spaces into smaller nooks, where one could hideaway and read all day, and never be found.
Many structural elements throughout the house, were brought to life with the addition of self-made concrete bathtubs, concrete feature walls, home made bench tops and also features a stunning oak parquet floor in the kitchen; which soften the normally visually harsh concept of a modern kitchen.
The interior throughout each space, has of course been created by Hayley’s knowledge of lifestyle designs, being the co-founder of lifestyle brand Kip & Co in Melbourne. Using many unique and vibrant pieces throughout each space, the house reflects more of a family retreat, than an average home.
From the bedrooms, to the even the laundry, no space has been overlooked in the design of Hayley House.
