House Pranayama by Architect Prineas is a three-storey side addition to an existing 1920s two storey brick home in leafy suburb of Bellevue Hill.
With an already existing 1920s two-storey brick home in the leafy suburb of Bellevue Hill in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs, designers from Architect Prineas were briefed to create an additional space next to the house, which created a space for a study, library and rumpus.
Owners wished for this new space to provide opportunity for internal connections and lift access from the previous separate garage, to access this new addition; which is a three-storey narrow design space, which provides plenty of space and allows an abundance of natural light to shine through.
The design of House Pranayama was conceived as a single, vertical form which contrasts the horizontality of the existing house.
Economical in its footprint, the addition’s internal floor area measures 44sqm, with one room occupying each of the three levels – a rumpus room below ground, a library at ground level and a study on the level above.
The stunning result of this new addition, is a minimalist palette of concrete, black steel, black joinery and white walls, which is offset by the use of pale green textured tiles and rough sawn timber relief in the concrete ceiling, which enhance the play of light and shadow throughout each space within House Pranayama by Architect Prineas.
