Kingsville Residence
by Richard King Design
Kingsville Residence design is the remodel of an ageing federation cottage in Melbourne.
Architects Richard King Designs have revitalised a dilapidated federation cottage into a more friendly environment of open spaces and plenty of natural light.
The house was extensively demolished, in-order to extend and remodel, creating a very open style, two-level, contemporary house, which follows a passive-house design of clean lines and lots of light.
Design included the creation of a central spine corridor, which connects the old part of the house with the new contemporary extension of the rear living space.
This allowed for the new architectural design of the house to maintain the original format of the house, creating unique interior spaces for the bedroom and living spaces – which occupy the front portion of the house.
Additional bedrooms, bathrooms, entrance and laundry were also created, as part of the new architectural design throughout the house.
By utilising the generous roof height, and proportions of living space, a mezzanine level was also added to the interior, which provides double-heighted space, at the rear of the property.
This allows for a variety of accommodating spaces throughout the home, for any type of family living in the house, as it provides the perfect mixture of private, social and work spaces for any occasion.
