A sublime design of aesthetic architecture, this house lined with timber has been richly sculptured with an uncompromising commitment to spatial flow.

Set high up and overlooking the Bass Straight in Fairhaven Victoria and designed by John Wardle Architects, this house inhabits the surrounding coastal bush site with an active response to raw architecture and creating a new contemporary energy of design fused with rustic timber accents throughout.

Being located on top of a ridgeline above the Great Ocean Road, the proportions, orientation and dimensions of windows are tailored to explore the surrounding views of the house and to reveal internal spaces throughout.

The design process used by architects for this house, is akin to scenography, cutting together sensory and spatial experiences to frame the theatre of inhabitation within. This spatial journey throughout the house from arrival to view, has been choreographed to increase the anticipation before reaching the main living space.

As you step beneath a cantilevered study into a dramatic vertical entry space, a person becomes acutely aware of the architectural twists and folds along its length which transform into a horizontal living space. The main window aperture also matches the cinematic proportions of the ocean view.
