The Nest
by Shaun Lockyer Architects
The Nest by Shaun Lockyer Architects is a family home tucked away on a large bush block that combines an enviable combination of city views and an acreage lifestyle within the inner-city of Brisbane.
The house draws its inspiration from modern roots, expressed through the juxtaposition of heavy vertical and light horizontal planes. A palette of sandblasted concrete, Spotted Gum timber and natural stone create a robust, warm and timeless aesthetic.
Shaun Lockyer’s trademark architecture style of regionally inspired subtropical modernism is demonstrated throughout the home.
Context was key for this design. Shaun Lockyer and his team demonstrated their perfect understanding of the uniqueness of Queensland architecture by incorporating climatic and cultural considerations into the design.
The Nest is very much the ‘new Queenslander’ home. The home uses lightness to forge a direct relationship between indoor and outdoor spaces.
Integral to Shaun Lockyer’s design process is the relationship between client and architect. This personal touch has ensured that through the Nest Shaun Lockyer Architects have not only created a beautiful home, but also built a long lasting friendship. Ultimately Shaun runs his practice around the belief that architecture is about relationships with people and the incredible buildings that he designs are a means to this end.
