Storey Floors is a minimal showroom of Timber Flooring by designer Laritt-Evans.
Challenged with a brief to design a showroom for Storey Floors, which uniquely display products of the brand, Laritt-Evans created an incredible viewing of modular over-sized timber cubes, made from the products in which Storey Floors create and sell.
This unique showroom creation by Laritt-Evans provides a modern outlook to how showrooms can be displayed to create an interesting play on products, which would otherwise not be that interesting to look at.
The cubes show off; not only the colour, size and quality of the boards, but importantly the versatility of the applications of these products by Storey Floors; which is beyond just flooring.
‘The product offer was simple, so we wanted to disrupt the ‘usual’ ways of presenting floor boards. For us there was is power in the simplicity of the idea, the scale and the proportions.
We worked closely with our builders, prototyping mitred edges with the fine layers of timber veneers on the boards. This detail was used across the product display, the desks and all joinery. It was a challenge to meet the exacting standards of ourselves and our clients.’ The designers said.
Fine mitered edges feature in the construction of the cubes, and also in the desks and joinery throughout the space of the showroom; which was also constructed from Storey Boards and custom built and designed by Laritt-Evans.
“I actually panicked a little, thinking about timber flooring and how can we avoid cliches and simply apply it to walls and floors. I love this part of the process where the reality of the brief kicks in and the creative solutions start flowing.
I really wanted to show the verstatility of the boards, present them in an unexpected way; and so the idea of individual modules came to light. By creating stackable modules, we could demonstrate the product benefits of versatility of the boards beyond flooring alone.
The visual interest comes through in the scale and proportions of the modules – they spark conversation and invite touch and interaction. It was at its core a very simple concept – but the scale of the modules create the drama and interest.”
The soft furnishes and interior design of the showroom, were also created by Claire Laritt-Evans, who is the interior designer for Laritt-Evans.
