Studio House
by Zen Architects
A modern design created to be flexible and multipurpose as both a studio and living space.
Designers Zen Architects created a unique space, which can easily change over time, depending on the needs of the client. Essentially, it’s a mini home on as little as 30sqm of land, over two levels within the footprint of a shed in the back yard.
Used as either a work in studio or living space, Studio House allows more flexibility of space when needed – which is more than what a normal home may be able to provide.
Included into the design, are two sleeping areas; or studios, a bathroom, and a generous living space, that in itself could be easily converted into a small kitchenette if required.
As the Studio House sits beside a laneway, designers were also able to provide a private entrance to the house, separating it from the main house. Which comes in handy when the space is being used for grown children of the owners, or even guests visiting.
This has been coupled with the idea of an external stair, which allows for individual users to occupy different floors. Meaning this building can cater for extensive and diverse uses.
Materials used for the project are robust, a concrete slab floor, local recycled bricks, plywood for the first floor, corten steel cladding and timber double glazed windows throughout.
Clients of the new design can now cater for the immediate family needs, for more space, whilst enjoying flexible choices, which can be used in the future, without destroying the quality of their backyard.
