From The Architect
Located on a quiet street, this delicate but tough new beach house makes an interesting sanctuary, assimilated with context and landscape.
Driven by the local vernacular of gently gabled houses, a delicate building form is snuggled between its neighbours. Two entry experiences – the most obvious a casual outdoor shower which celebrates the ritual returning from the beach, while a more unnoticeable side entry goes to a central courtyard at the heart of the house.
Distinct living spaces evade vast open planning and bridge between discrete bedroom spaces. These living areas are re-experienced through glances and framed views from different perspectives. Outlook within and beyond changes through these spaces, which transform in personality over day and season. Investment in the construction and covering of the house, considered bones and resources results in a tranquil and unpredicted journey assimilated with users, site and its surrounds.
