House. Breeze Block

The Breeze Block House is a fresh and modern redesign of a 1950’s Lane Cove home.

The design of the house has been reconfigured internally and now includes two additional outdoor rooms, which connect the house and the garden using a complimentary language of design, which plays homage to the original space.

The new rooms to the house, both additional and existing are now open to the sky, creating an air of transparency and provided an abundance of natural light in each space. By framing the courtyard with the carport, the outdoor space now rethinks a traditional take on suburban backyards.

Connection to the outdoor area, and the ability to have rooms that are open to the sky, adds a different dimension to the living spaces of the house. With the redesigned larger scale garden, this is now drawn into the smaller rooms of the house, creating the illusion of more space.

Composition of both old and new were considered in the redesign of the Breeze Block House.

New garden room spaces are considered as volumes, so they become rooms rather than having a distinction between the inside and the out. One room is connected to the family and living space, the other to the private main bedroom. But both still share a room view of the garden.

The original house was anchored, so Architect Prineas created something anchored and connected to the garden, whilst still having a lightness and transparency that transcends the material solidity.

The Breeze Block is a structural unit in itself and was used in a direct and simple way to connect to a more modern way of living today.
