The renovation of this c1913 double fronted brick Edwardian and later extension, involved the meticulous replanning of spaces within the existing shell in order to serve a family of four into the future. Every room within the house was touched in some way, whether through complete reconfiguration, restoration or a lick of paint. To the front of the house, the main bedroom was converted into a master suite. This involved the considered replanning of an existing secondary bathroom into a generous walk-through robe, with ensuite taking up residence in a new ‘pod’ adjacent. Finished in red brick and painted battens, the pod recedes from view of the main house. A discreet hinged screen offers privacy while maintaining access to natural light and ventilation.
Plush wool carpet extends through the bedroom and into the robe, where dark timber doors create an understated atmosphere. The ensuite features luxurious Elba stone complimented by subtly textured porcelain tiles, finger mosaics providing texture to the shower wall. Moving through the house, new oak floorboards link old with new, providing a contemporary lightness and warmth throughout. A skylight within the hall washes the space with natural light. Large format artworks line the walls to create a gallery experience.
