McArthur House
by Bryant Alsop
This is a modern contemporary home designed to catch the northern light.
Built on a relatively flat site in Melbourne’s leafy eastern suburbs, McArthur House is a stunning reflection of modern contemporary design and architecture, which channels the idea of light and space.
Designers Bryant Alsop created a unique space of clean open areas, with lots of sharp designs throughout, to reflect the owner’s idea of a modern light filled contemporary home.
The block runs east south, so a C-shaped plan was developed to catch the northern light. A central, double height space sits adjacent this courtyard, allowing light to flood in to all parts of the house.
Incorporated into the design of the new contemporary space, a specific zone was created for older children, which allows for them to have a self-contained living space and bedrooms on the first floor, to the rear of the property.
Bryant Alsop Architects worked closely with Mil Constructions throughout the construction stage to achieve a high quality and resolved outcome. This resulted in a stunning home, which reflects the modern ideal of what Australian contemporary designs can achieve.
