From The Architect
The design brief was to modernise the home, both inside & out, whilst retaining the coastal feel of the original brick and weatherboard house.
The architectural language of the project celebrates the local vernacular style in a modern and playful way. Using a seaside palette of materials, such as white painted timber-work, grey decking and copper sheeting, the home feels fresh and relaxing. The traditional form of a beach cottage is reinterpreted through simplified massing and cantilevered planes. Particular attention has been given to the openings; deep reveals frame unobstructed views of the garden and ocean beyond.
