This beautiful heritage property in Petrie Terrace, Brisbane, was completed early this year and included a full internal reconfiguration and interior design strategy. The design was implemented to create a open, modern, yet traditional extension while celebrating and refining the character aspects of the original cottage. Located on 2 levels, the new extension was located on the lower level and includes guest sleeping quarters, open kitchen and living spaces, with a vast exterior balcony and entertaining area. The upper level includes the luxurious and spacious master bedroom, ensuite and dressing room.
There is a consistency of detail and colour throughout the home. The main feature being the voluminous and extensive kitchen and living space. The design includes a beautifully saturated tiled backdrop that wraps around the range hood, and creates a subtle and changing texture to the living environment. The tiled backdrop compliments the stone island bench anchoring the centre of the space. Dusty baby blue sprayed cabinetry injects a playful and refreshing colour into the home, and contrasts beautifully with the Tongue and Groove oak flooring,
As part of the living space, a hidden dry bar is position off the lounge area, providing a talking point for guests, and ample storage for wine and spirits. A unique curved tile and brass detailing creates a glamorous & unexpected inclusion; with custom formed cabinet doors for wine storage and display. The master bedroom quarters celebrate the heritage aspects of the home, while adding modern finishes with complimentary & feminine tones. Using Herman Millar pendant lighting through the bedroom, wardrobe and ensuite, this timeless forms works with both modern inclusions and character aspects. We retained the bedroom fireplace with is accompanied aged gloss tiles, and included intricate pattern and fabric detailing in the bedhead and soft furnishings by Anna Spiro Fabrics. The walk-in wardrobe has a symmetrical layout, with wallpaper back panels in pink tones and a central island made of a pink veined marble matching the master bedroom vanity and wall details.
The master bathroom has hidden toilet and shower alcoves with a beautiful central freestanding bathtub. A spacious double basin vanity, has the inclusions of a marble bench and custom round dowel cabinetry fronts.
We wanted to create an elegant yet casual interior, that created an easy living environment while providing unique touches that reflected the client’s ifestyle and aesthetic. This home is modern and unique but subtly reflects the Brisbane lifestyle and harmoniously celebrates the Queenslander cottage charm.
