From The Architect
The previous outdated alterations were removed to add new and sympathetic additions in the clients’ place. The building’s new intricate steel windows and honest expression of the timber trusses enhance the existing charm.
The junction between the new and the old was treated as a bridge creating a breathing space between the two elements. The garage is integrated with the house incorporating an outdoor roof terrace, softened by new landscaping.
The small operable window inserts, coupled with external adjustable louvres, capture the sea breezes enabling climatic control. The existing roof framing has been opened up and expressed with new insulation keeping the house cool in summer. A water collection tank has been installed for irrigation purposes.
