From The Architect
The design response utilises the most evident strength of the site – the rear north facing garden, to create a series of social living spaces with a resort feel to accommodate the owners and guests. The original plan of the existing house is simplified through the insertion of a high entry gallery which gently illuminates the owners’ art collection with southerly light and facilitates natural ventilation.
Living areas are located to the rear, where extensive operable glazing to the northern facade and the continuous flow of timber, concrete and stone strengthen the focus toward the garden. Boundaries between building and landscape are dissolved to result in a place rich in joyful possibilities, enveloping the family in a sunny, social sanctuary that thrives in the Australian climate.
