The South Yarra #2 Residence by Full of Grace Interiors is the transformation of a home through an abundance of style and a touch of grace.

The story of the South Yarra #2 Residence begins when two long time friends bought a modest 1920’s house in South Yarra with the view to maintain the front facade of the property but build a sleek, contemporary extension at the rear to allow for a second story and rooftop terrace with uninterrupted city views.

Therese Carrodus of Full of Grace Interiors was first engaged by clients Adam and James to design the joinery throughout the home and to assist with the selection of the finishes, fittings and furniture. When Therese first approached the project the house was a bleak and baron shell with rooms mapped-out only by a timber stud frame. Therese recalls a feeling of excitment when first hearing the brief as her ideas and the clients matched in perfect synergy. This project represented a wonderful opportunity to work with cooperative clients on what was essentially a blank canvas.

The clients wanted to build a sleek, contemporary extension at the rear to allow for a second story and rooftop terrace with uninterrupted city views.

The ground floor layout consists of two bedrooms with a main bathroom and open-plan kitchen, living and dining area at the rear. The second floor is made up of a generously sized master bedroom with walk-in robe and ensuite as well as a study nook and rooftop terrace. Adam and James work as project managers on large-scale luxury apartments, so their aim was to pull together their industry contacts and professional experience to build their own house project – a home that truly reflected their keen eye for design.

The brief was to design an interior with strong masculine elements, all through the use of materials and joinery detailing and fittings. The palette evolved through the combination of black timber veneer, grey tundra natural stone, black and grey flecked carpets, and aged brass fittings. Therese worked through the space introducing gentle curves throughout the joinery to balance the masculine tones, creating an easy, continuous flow between each of the spaces.

The soft grey curves of the kitchen cabinetry are complemented by natural stone bench tops and black leather pull handles. The intricate joinery and masculine palette of the kitchen has transformed the space into a sophisticated addition to the overall home.

Therese of Full of Grace Interiors worked through the space introducing gentle curves throughout the joinery to balance the masculine tones, creating an easy, continuous flow between each of the spaces.

The main bathroom is one of Theresa’s favourite spaces in the home. A place a quiet reflection, the large free-standing bath and one way glass window overlooking the courtyard allows occupants to treat themselves to some much needed personal time.

The end result was a sleek modern home designed over two floor levels featuring inividual and communal spaces for the clients to live and entertain accordingly. Both Therese and the clients have fallen in love with the project over the course of the journey and the end result is testament to the passion all three displayed from beginning to end.
