The South Yarra Residence by Ewert Leaf is a stunning residential project located in one of Melbourne’s most stylish suburbs and created by head architect Will Leaf.
For this project Ewert Leaf designed a sleek and contemporary residential renovation to an existing single fronted Victorian terrace house in South Yarra, Melbourne. The existing home was landlocked on both sides and restricted by council and heritage stipulations making this project particularly challenging.
The client’s brief required a new open plan living/kitchen area which opened onto a courtyard, along with a new upper storey for a master bedroom, with a WIR, en-suite and external balcony.
Ewert Leaf overcame the obstacles created by the narrow 5m wide site through the clever use of spatial angles to create a sense of space. This intelligent design was achieved by creating a double height void over the new stair featuring windows which provide glimpses of the skyline.
The natural light achieved through the use of skylights created a sense of openness that was further emphasized through the use of defined angles and white walls to brighten the center of the house.
