Harrison Interiors joined forces with Karyne Murphy Studio to reinvigorate the TarraWarra Estate restaurant, following the recent opening of a winery cellar door.
Working with a beautiful structural canvas by Allan Powell Architects, the design approach was foremost to pay compliment to the rammed earth, concrete and glass building and its stunning views across the rolling Yarra Valley acreage.
The brief to accommodate both bistro-style diners and relaxed stop-in guests was met with a combination of seating options – a large communal table for casual drinks meets subtly extrava-luxe tan leather ribbed banquettes.
The colour scheme was developed to bring a refined rustic feel and a sophisticated earthiness. Black is a strong, but not overpowering, theme. Black marble, granite and steel each contribute a different tone and texture, and black timber chairs tie the seating together with upholstered tan leather backs. Blackbutt recalls timber wine barrels and the black timber ceiling is a modern take on cellar construction.
A custom-made, solid timber credenza with stained inlaid panels – in a typically Harrison Interiors geometric pattern – and solid brass, angled legs picks up the brass inflection in ceiling lights and lends a contemporary yet old-school dining room familiarity.
