Early analysis of the site identified new opportunities to better access natural light, ventilation, and view corridors across Sydney Harbour and its verdant surrounds. Project alterations included interior reconfigurations, changes to openings, and a highly- detailed and bespoke fitout. Separate formal spaces were integrated into an open-plan family home. In addition to an enhanced design of the opened space, new moments of delight were to be considered in conjunction with opportunities for connection that enrich family life. The overarching brief defined a flexible space was is responsive to its function, individual in its design, and connected to its users.
The general finishes palette combines the warmth of brass, soft veining of marble, and figured grain of blackened timber to establish a rich and honest textural language for the project. By utilising a simple white ‘backdrop’ for the interior shell, the bespoke detailing, artisan craftsmanship and material character were given an opportunity to take centre stage. Key pieces like the Kitchen Island and Master vanity were conceived as beautiful yet durable ‘objects’, layered within a curated assemblage. Contrasting gestures were typically expressed through the use of dramatic colour or texture. For example, the Powder Room’s violet-veined vanity flanked by blue-painted walls; Or the blood-red marble dresser that slots into the restrained Master Suite.
