From The Architect
A bold exterior form inspired by surrounding built character is transformed internally to draw natural light and connect with water and landscape.
The brief for a breezy and voluminous beachside retreat needed appealing simple solutions to address and respect the surrounds.
An L-shaped plan covers the outer perimeter of the corner site, delivering security and discretion. Inspired by plentiful gable roof beach houses, an abstracted silhouette form is extruded through the new home, producing a clerestory and sculpting out stimulating internal experiences.
Arduous interior planning created a journey through three sectors within the home: the entry and living spaces facing north, the guest and study area at the corner, and the enfilade master bedroom section further north. A covered walkway barriers the master bedroom and the garden, producing a private edge to the dramatic lap pool. The walkway initiates one of many parallel long view lines throughout the house.
